Being part of the Challenge Partners Network of Excellence we take part in annual reviews where our practice is quality assured.
Reading has been recognised as an area of excellence at Salusbury (you can read more about this in our report). We have already started to virtually support schools in other areas with their reading provision and will continue to do this in person once COVID restrictions are eased.
"This is аn excellent application from Salusbury Primary School which meets the criteria for the Full International School Award. Well done! All the required elements are in the application with some really interesting and relevant activities spread across all classes and the whole academic year. The application starts with an informative introduction and careful referencing. The SEF is ambitious and Ofsted have made supportive comments. There are thriving overseas partnerships with CEIP El Carmen in Spain and Mbollet-Ba in The Gambia, both featured on a superb website. The application showcases collaborative activities with these partners, at least three other international dimension activities, a Modern Foreign Languages input and all the necessary evaluations with thoughtful comments often enriched with quotes. During the Spanish Day parents told staff that they found the experience of “linking a cultural day with language learning is brilliant. It brings the language alive for children.” At the end of Black History Month “Pupils were given certificates and winning prizes and their work was displayed in a local book shop - this was wonderful for the children and a great boost for everyone in our community”. Most striking of all to the assessor was the depth of the international links e.g. “Thanks to a shared English curriculum, Salusbury pupils and their families can transfer in term-time to Mbollet-ba for a unique educational experience and a close-up encounter with the Developing World.” 100 individuals have already taken advantage of this remarkable opportunity featured in a marvellous application which demonstrates commitment, depth and breadth in every way. And future plans not only mention continuity of these initiatives but also the prospect of developing a link with Japan. This is all very exciting and well-documented. Congratulations to everyone at Salusbury Primary School!"
Pupils have enjoyed the increase in practical work and have become more engaged with science. Traditional methods of monitoring including book looks and classroom observations have allowed you to see the improvements in learning and teaching.
Your curriculum maps have helped teachers make the STEM links more explicit. You have done good work on science vocabulary as shown in report writing and your knowledge organisers.
You have good links with your local community. I really like the idea of your science open mornings. You have a good range of visits and visitors using your local resources well. I thought the plastic bottles project was great, very topical, with lots of good science and helping the planet as well.
