Pencils for Mbollet ba

Many hundreds of gleaming new and recycled gleaming colour pencils and pens have been donated by Salusbury children. A big thanks to all who got organized to do it. Staff Lynne and Debbie and pupils Leonardo, Eryk, Lisa and Janina will take them next to our partner school, Mbollet-ba in The Gambia.

The collection already fills a suitcase and more is on the way. It’s over 20 kgs and counting ! Especial thanks to those who also donated a few pennies with it: the £30 collected this way covers the luggage charges for transport.

Creative detailed Art work is not in the Gambian children’s curriculum. As a result they miss many of the benefits of stimulated imaginations, self-fulfillment, application to tasks – which we at Salusbury derive from making and displaying our art. Even the practice of tight pencil grip and fine movement is a huge boost to the development of younger children.

Our pupils and staff and other volunteers in The Gambia will be working hard with the Mbollet-children all through half term to give them practice and skills and habits as young creative artists.

The limited work done in October with creative curriculum showed that it is very popular with Mbollet’s children.
